VARIOUS ARTISTS KABARETT FLEDERMAUS. 22 page book. 1907.
9 3/4x9 1/4 inches. Wiener Werkstätte.
Condition A.
In 1906 Mary Delvard and Mark Henry opened the Nachtlicht cabaret in Vienna. The following year the cabaret moved to a new location and adopted the name Fledermaus. The entire operation was designed by Secession artists, and realized by the Wiener Werkstätte, becoming a showcase of their style and craftsmanship. The architecture and interiors were designed by Joseph Hoffmann, and the bar was decorated by Berthold Löffler, who also designed posters for the theater. Even the programs for the shows were designed by members of the group. This is the second program. It was laid out by Otto Czeschka, who joined the Wiener Werkstätte in 1906 and introduced decorative elements into their repertoire of design concepts. The four color plates in the program are designed by Oskar Kokoschka, Berthold Löffler, and two by Fritz Zeyman. The work is a masterpiece of printing and design and is extremely rare, especially in such good condition. Wiener Grafik p. 310-312.
