Cizek opened his school in 1897, and is credited with coining the phrase "Child Art." The premise of his theory, and what he clearly put into practice, was that the child is more creative than a majority of adults . . . he looked at children's art for its truth and visual clarity. He saw an intuitive beauty and aesthetic statement in the renderings" (Kelly, p. 83). Cizek lectured on his work internationally, and organized exhibitions of his student's art, sponsored by the Austrian Red Cross, in America and Great Britain. The young artists in this lot include Helene Launzner, Bella Vichon (age 15), Stephanie Kraus (age 15) and Lisl Kerry.
