(PRESIDENTS--1828 CAMPAIGN.) [Akin, James; artist?] The Pedlar and his Pack, or the Desperate Effort, an Over Balance.

(PRESIDENTS--1828 CAMPAIGN.) [Akin, James; artist?] The Pedlar and his Pack, or the Desperate Effort, an Over Balance. Hand-colored aquatint, 11x 17 1/2 inches; a few tears and chips outside plate mark, mount remnants on verso. [Philadelphia, 1828]

  • Notes: Philadelphia publisher John Binns had called candidate Andrew Jackson a murderer using a series of "coffin broadsides." Binns is here shown struggling under the weight of these coffins, and the added weight of Jackson's unsuccessful opponents Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams (clutching the presidential chair). Reilly, American Political Prints 1828-3.
