(PRESIDENTS--1831.) [Clay, Edward Williams]; artist. Grand Virginia Reel and Scamperdown at the White House. Lithograph, 13 x 20 1/4 inches; moderate soiling and wear including 4 repaired closed tears up to 3 inches. New York: Henry R. Robinson, February 1836

  • Notes: A satirical print showing Andrew Jackson knocking over the King of France and taking his money. The money was related to reparations due under the Treaty of 1831. Martin Van Buren goads Jackson on with his fiddle-playing to the left. An anti-Semitic touch can be seen in the background with Baron de Rothschild announcing "By Moses and de Profits, I am King of de Jews!" Reilly 1836-5.
