  • Notes: Long before he was president, John Quincy Adams served as the chief American negotiator on the Treaty of Ghent which ended the War of 1812. Adams released these documents in 1822 to counter rumors that he had offered the British navigation rights on the Mississippi river during the negotiations. This copy was inscribed to his youngest brother Thomas Boylston Adams. Sabin 276.
