    Prosper Louis Senat was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania and studied abroad at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris and at the South Kensington School, London. He became known as one of the leading landscape artists in Philadelphia and exhibited the paintings and watercolors he completed en plein air during his extensive travels. Aside from his trips abroad to Bermuda, Mexico, Italy, Spain, and Morocco, Senat often spent winters in California and summered in Maine.
