- Notes: first edition. New Jersey Quaker John Woolman (1720-1772) was a pioneering antislavery activist. His "Some Considerations on the Keeping of Negroes," included here, was first published in 1754, two decades before the formation of the first abolitionist societies. Woolman's A Journal of the Life, Gospels Labours, and Christian Experiences of that Faithful Minister of Christ was published for the first time as Part I of this anthology.
