"THE AMERICAN WAY TO EUROPE" / UNITED STATES LINES. Circa 1923.

38x25½ inches, 96½x64¾ cm.
Condition A-: expert overpainting in margins; minor creases in margins and image.

The Leviathan was originally a German ship named the Vaterland that was seized by the United States during World War I and renamed. In 1923, the United States Shipping Board transferred the ship over to the United States Lines. Though not in fact "The largest ship in the world," (she was second to White Star's Majestic), the ship was a headline-maker and considered to be one of the best-known liners in the western world. This image exists with several different text variations.
