Notes: "Your Grass Valley land and lake sound wonderful. I can understand why you are anxious to move. For a time our ranch was evidently on the circuit of a bear. We never got a glimpse but would find evidence, tracks, etc. The periods in-between such visits indicated it covered quite a large territory. Now we haven't seen any tracks and, by coincidence, a bear was shot in Goleta when it began coming into the town raiding garbage cans about a year and half ago. About your walnuts -- do you still have a horse? Our horses eat acorns, shells and all. I can offer a handful and they eat them like sugar lumps..."
Reagan began writing to the Sisco sisters in the late 1970s, after their request for his help to support their mentally-handicapped brother. He continued corresponding with them throughout his presidency. At the time of this light-hearted letter, Reagan was faced with the worst recession since the Depression and a falling approval rating.
