(REAL PHOTO POSTCARDS--MoMA)
A group of 7 real photo postcards of the Museum of Modern Art, including exterior shots and installed sculptures.
The architectural views include one exterior image of the front of the building, the terrace of the members' penthouse, the Japanese Exhibition House (interior) by Junzo Yoshimura and presented by the America-Japan Society, and a view from the south of the House in the Museum Garden. The sculptures include Jacques Lipchitz's Figure (1926-30), Gaston Lachaise's Standing Woman (1932), and Aristide Maillol's The River (c. 1939-43). The images are credited to Soichi Sunami, Alexandre Georges, and Ezra Stoller. Silver prints on carte-postale paper, the images measuring 5¾x4 inches (16.4x10.2 cm.), and slightly smaller, and the reverse, each with the Museum of Modern Art credit, address, and caption, and nearly all with the photographers' credit, printed on verso. 1949-1950s

  • Condition: This group of real photo postcards of New York's MoMA is in overall excellent condition. The surfaces are lustrous, bright, and clean, and are nearly without visible imperfection.

The print depicting the Japanese Exhibition House shows a small diagonal crease in the upper left corner, only visible in raking light. A couple of the prints evidence exceedingly minor and tiny chips in one corner (a view from the south of the House and the Maillol sculpture). The image of the Lachaise sculpture evidences two exceptionally soft creases at the upper edge (outside of the sculpture itself) as well as a couple minuscule and superficial chips at the edges. This too is minor.

The images are credited to Soichi Sunami, Alexandre Georges, and Ezra Stoller, and feature modernist renderings of the museum's architecture. A compelling group of images from mid-century.
