(RECONSTRUCTION.) Read, Rev. Hollis. The Negro Problem Solved. Africa as She Was, Africa as She is, Africa as She Shall Be. Engraved half-title and 3 engraved plates. 8vo, original gilt-pictorial cloth; small unobtrusive repair at top of spine. New York: A. A. Constantine, 1865 E200/300 FIRST EDITION. Despite the title, not a purely racist work; rather, Read praises African culture and achievement. He sees the "Negro Problem" as 4 million newly-emancipated people, the majority with no jobs, etc. The 3 engravings illus-trate the subtitle which encourages emigration to Africa. Schomburg Collection, rare 326 8C-R; Blockson Collection 3566.
