Silver prints, late 1930s; printed 1977. 5x7 inches, with a facsimile handstamp signature and edition notations "22/25," in pencil, on verso; in a cloth clamshell box. E5,000/7,500 Reginald Marsh (1898-1954) is best known as a "realist" painter and printmaker. The wonderful assortment of images in this portfolio, made with a 35mm Leica, concentrate on the energetic, and seamy, side of the New York that he loved: the flophouses, subway interiors, circus sideshows, and colorful street scenes. The photographs also focus on men in the city, whether they'rehaving their shoes shined, frolicking on the beach, or simply hangingout.
