  • Notes: Bound volume containing 54 American chapbooks, printed for the New York State Tract Society (1), the New England Tract Society (8), and the American Tract Society (45). 28 of them with woodcut vignette on the title-page. Most of the titles are from 2 to 24 pages each. Among the titles are "The Happy Negro, to which are Added, the Praying Soldier, and the Profligate Reclaimed"; "Fatal Effects of Ardent Spirits"; and "Memoir of Mrs. Harriet Newell . . . Missionary to India." Provenance: Swann sale, 26 May 1983, lot 45.
