Etching and drypoint, circa 1652. 213x163 mm; 8 1/2x6 1/2 inches. Biörklund's second state (of 4); Usticke's second state (e-i) (of 7); White and Boon's second state (of 4); with the very fine vertical lines on the panel of glass at the right above the disk, but before the fine horizontal lines in the small inverted triangle beneath the skull and additonal engraved lines on the robe (thus earlier than the intermediate second to third state of three described in Rembrandt Experimental Etcher, Boston, 1987, number 49). Ex-collection James Reiss (?) (see Lugt 1522, verso). A very good, early impression, with burr throughout the robe. Bartsch 270; Biörklund 52-4; Hollstein (White and Boon) 270.
