REMBRANDT VAN RIJN The Death of the Virgin.

REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
The Death of the Virgin.

Etching and drypoint, 1639. 385x305 mm; 15 1/8x12 inches. Biörklund's fourth state (of 4); Usticke's fourth state (e) (of 5); White and Boon's third state (of 3). Trimmed inside the plate mark. Partial Strasburg Lily watermark (Ash/Fletcher 36, which they cite for early, first state, impressions of this subject). A very good, well-inked and evenly-printed impression, likely from a pre-Basan printing though certainly with the delicate Watelet rework. Bartsch 99; Biörklund 39-A; Hollstein (White and Boon) 99.
