The Sleeping Herdsman.

Etching and drypoint, circa 1644. 79x58 mm; 3 1/4x2 1/4 inches, narrow margins. Usticke's only state (e), with the fine vertical lines on the young man's forehead distinct. A superb, dark, early impression, with burr in the shading between the woman and the herdsman, on the herdsman's left leg and in the background behind the herdsman.

According to Usticke, "A rare little plate (RR+)." We have found fewer than seven other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Bartsch 189; Biörklund 44-1; Hollstein (White and Boon) 189.
