REMBRANDT VAN RIJN The Tribute Money.

REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
The Tribute Money.

Etching and drypoint on thin Japan paper, circa 1635. 69x102 mm; 2 7/8x4 1/8 inches, narrow to thread margins. Biörklund's second state (of 2); Usticke's second state (of 3), with the fine lines above Christ's head and projecting onto the upper part of the turban of the standing man facing Christ, likely the fine Watelet rework; White and Boon's second state (of 2). A very good, richly-inked impression with strong contrasts and traces of burr on the back of the standing man at left with his back turned and with inky plate edges, consistent with early impressions of this subject. Bartsch 68; Biörklund 35-2; Hollstein (White and Boon) 68.
