REVERE, PAUL. Bookplate engraved for Perez Morton.
REVERE, PAUL. Bookplate engraved for Perez Morton. 101 x 71 mm; cropped slightly out of alignment with loss of a very small fraction of the image on the right margin, minor ink smudging near base of plate, scarcely visible hole where removed from a book, secured to mat board by two hinges, in modern frame. [Boston, 1784]
- Notes: In addition to Paul Revere's silver production and book illustration, he also engraved a small number of bookplates. Perez Morton (1750-1834) was a Boston merchant, and a regular purchaser of Revere's silver. Revere's day book bills Morton on 12 July 1784 for "engraving your arms on copper" and printing 100 copies. The design incorporates Morton's arms, his name, the motto "Deo tum Patriæ," and Revere's characteristic book-numbering blank: "[No ]". Brigham, Paul Revere's Engravings, page 113.
