(REVOLUTION.) Paine, Thomas. Common Sense Addressed to the Inhabitants of America.
(REVOLUTION.) Paine, Thomas. Common Sense Addressed to the Inhabitants of America. 64 pages. 8vo, stitched self wrappers, restitched at an early date; browned and stained throughout with mildew, corners folded; uncut. Norwich: Judah P. Spooner, [1776]
Two editions were printed in Norwich, CT from the Bradford Philadelphia edition and were sold by both Spooner and Timothy Green in New London. This edition, the latter of the two, was published at the end of February 1776 and includes the Appendix and Address to Quakers. Although among the most widely printed and distributed pamphlets at the time (an estimated 500,000 copies), 1776 editions of Common Sense have become increasingly scarce. Bristol B4313; Adams, Independence 222R; Gimbel CS-50.
All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues and are posted below.
