(RHODE ISLAND.) Family papers of Zuriel and George Waterman.

(RHODE ISLAND.) Family papers of Zuriel and George Waterman. 26 manuscript letters and documents, various sizes and conditions. Vp, 1751-1813

  • Notes: Zuriel Waterman (1756-1786) was best known as a physician aboard several privateer vessels during the American Revolution. Most of these letters relate to Waterman's personal business and family, but one of the several war-date letters alludes to his privateering activities. John Barker wrote from North Carolina in 1783: "concerning your prize money . . . the hopes you had from that quarter are entirely blasted." The letter is addressed to Dr. Waterman aboard the brig General Gregory. Other letters in the collection are addressed to brother George Waterman (1754-1829); two early letters were written by father Christopher Waterman (1722-1758) while trading in the West Indies.
