ROBERT GOODNOUGH
Two sculptures.

Dinny the Dinosaur, wood and nuts and bolts and acrylic, 2002. 210 mm; 8 1/4 inches (height). Signed, titled and dated in black ink on the base * Dinny the Dinosaur, painted metal, 1995. 120 mm; 4 3/4 inches (height). Signed, titled and dated in black ink.

Gift from the artist, thence by descent to the current owner.

After earning a degree in fine art at Syracuse University, Goodnough (1917-2010), at age 24, served in World War II at Fort Bragg, in the field artillery and painted portraits and murals at military installations during his free time. After the War he continued to pursue his art career, studying at Amadee Ozenfant School of Fine Arts, London, and the Hans Hofmann School of Art, Provincetown, where he became acquainted with other artists such as Alfred Leslie, Larry Rivers, Willem de Kooing and Mark Rothko.

Among the second generation of Abstract Expressionists, Goodnough consistently hovered under the radar with his own style of coloration and collage. Well known New York galleries such as Tibor de Nagy and André Emmerich represented Goodnough for most of his career and he was eventually given a one-man show at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo.
