ROMARE BEARDEN (1911 - 1988) Street Scene.
ROMARE BEARDEN (1911 - 1988)
Street Scene.
Collagraph printed in blackish blue, circa 1970. 355x595 mm; 14x23 1/2 inches, wide margins. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin. 3-inch tear upper left margin, 2-inch tear lower left margin, laid down at verso sheet edges. A very good, richly-inked impression of this very scarce print.
We have not found any other record of this very scarce print, apart from the one reproduced and described as "sugarlift" in Gelburd/Rosenberg.
This collagraph is printed from the second type of matrix described by Ruth Fine - "cardboard drawn onto with Elmer''s glue squeezed from the bottle to create globules that hardened as they dried, likewise coated for printing"; the third is a combination of both techniques. Ruth Fine, The Art of Romare Bearden, p. 61. Gelburd/Rosenberg 68.
