- Notes: "Bruton Parish Church at Williamsburg is one of those national shrines of which we have too few. Its venerable fabric, put up in Colonial days, has been a center of rich spiritual life through all the generations. Royal Governors under appointment from the King have worshipped within its walls; it saw the beginning of our life as a Nation and after this long history it stands today in undiminished glory no less as a triumph of the art of building than as a witness to the reliance of our people upon the eternal verities of religion..."
