ROOSEVELT, THEODORE. Manuscript, unsigned, containing biographical information on Isaac Carow (Edith Kermit Roosevelt's grandfather?). 1 page, single 8vo sheet; ink received stamp on verso. with -- Autograph Letter Signed, by Roosevelt, to George Wilson of the New York Chamber of Commerce, sending the manuscript. 1 page, small Sagamore Hill correspondence card; ink received stamp on verso.   • Notes: ALS: "I trust the enclosed sketch of Isaac Carow will be what you wish. It is difficult to get information about him; I have his diaries while in Europe."
    MS: "Isaac Carow belonged to an old Huguenot family that selled in New York about 1655. He was born at St. Croix in the West Indies March 29th 1778, his father Isaac Carow being a merchant in the West Indian trade. His mother's name was Ann Cooper. He moved to New York in 1793; he married his cousin Eliza Moet June 31st 1803, by whom he had eight children. He died September 3d 1850. He was a very successful merchant, and was deeply interested in all public affairs and in all charitable and religious undertakings; was warden of St. Marks Church (Episcopal), Governor of the New York Hospital, a prominent member of the Bible Society, a promoter of the Society Library &c. He was highly cultivated and had one of the most valuable libraries in New York as well as a first class wine cellar. He twice visited Europe, in 1815 and in 1827; in the latter year he was the guest of Lafayette during his stay in France."
