(ROOSEVELT, THEODORE.) QUENTIN ROOSEVELT. Typed Letter Signed, "Woogleseck" [nickname], to Groton classmate Lanfear Barbey Norrie ("Dear Lanf"), with two-line holograph note and arrow pointing to undulating lines of text: "sign of great agitation on / part of typewriter." The letter, complaining of having to undergo operation on his nose [broken while playing hockey], explaining that he had to use an old typewriter because his finger was healing from blood poisoning treatment, thanking for school news, and expressing anxiety about having to make up exams. 3 pages, 8vo, "Sagamore Hill" stationery, typewritten on a folded sheet, second and third pages written across two facing pages; horizontal fold. [Cove Neck], 18 March 1913 [from postmark]

". . . I am afraid I will not be able to come down to see you on account of this beastly operation on my nose. You see I have to go in to the doctor pretty often. I can't tell you how sorry I am. . . . This is type-written on an old and seedy typewriter merely because I have had [sic] just had my finger cut open for blood poisoning and it gets in my way when I write. . . . I am really pretty nearly all right now except for the fact that I cannot breathe at night. . . . The typewriter appears to be getting worse and worse so I guess I had better quit."
