Folio, blue morocco by F. Bedford, borders elaborately tooled in gilt, monogram of Baron de Rothschild, spine gilt in compartments, gilt dentelles, some rubbing to joints and tips, visible scuffs and some fading to rear covers, could use some restoration but still a tight and handsome binding; scattered foxing, front endpaper of Volume 1 beginning to separate at bottom. - Notes: a sumptuously produced record of the collections at seamore place and halton house. While Seamore was the inherited London family home, Halton was Alfred''s specially built country home. The elaborate French château exterior and grand 18th-century style furnishings became known as "La Style Rothschild." Because he did not have any children, it was bequeathed to his nephew Lionel Nathan de Rothschild who immediately sold Halton and its contents at auction in 1918. BM 21: 1202 (857).
