Generously donated by the Estate of Charles Silverstein. Silverstein (1935 – 2023) was an American writer, therapist, and LGBT rights advocate. He was best known for his presentation as a graduate student before the American Psychiatric Association in 1973 that led to the removal of homosexuality as a mental illness from the organization's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Proceeds of this item's sale will benefit The NYC LGBT Community Center.
  • Notes:
From the time of his first exhibition at Leo Castelli Gallery, New York, through the 1960s, Roy Lichtenstein designed several mailers and posters announcing his exhibitions. Many of the resultant images were also issued as signed and numbered editions, and Lichtenstein also signed the extra copies that were given away at the gallery. Most mailers and posters from this time were printed at commercial printers, like Total Color and Colorcraft, both in New York. Foot Medication Poster was used to advertise a group drawing show at Leo Castelli Gallery in 1963, and reproduces an original drawing by Lichtenstein.
