RUSSELL LEE (1903 - 1986)

Mexican carrot worker, Edinburg, Texas. February 1939.
Silver print, the image measuring 244x168 mm; 9 5/8x6 5/8 inches, the sheet slightly larger, with Lee's F.S.A. credit stamp and the Farm Security Administration stamp, the typed title and date, and the RA number in pencil on verso.

  • Condition: Russell Lee's vintage "Mexican carrot worker, Edinburg, Texas" (February 1939) is in very good condition. The print has exceptional tonal quality, with rich contrast and a beautiful rendering of sunlight and detail throughout.

The print is ferrotyped and in strong raking light it is possible to find just very slight surface inconsistencies associated with this process. There are also a couple of unobtrusive and short linear handling creases, including one at the upper right corner and another at the lower left edge. These are not immediately apparent. Finally, there are some faint stray soiling marks at the upper right edge. These slight imperfections are minor, and largely cannot be seen under typical viewing conditions.

The margins are clean, with just slight evidence of handling, as is print verso, where there are just a couple stray soiling marks. With Lee's F.S.A. credit stamp and the Farm Security Administration stamp, the typed title and date, and the RA number in pencil on verso.
