RUTGERS, HENRY. Partly-printed vellum Document Signed, transferring ownership of a small plot of land in New York City to John Coger. With signatures by two witnesses, Harris Scovell and W.B. Crosby. Approximately 19x25 inches, scalloped top edge; some small scattered holes at folds, some scattered foxing and dampstaining at folds, docketing on verso, bold signature, wax seals mostly intact. New York, 30 April 1824

  • Notes: Rutgers (1745-1830) fought for independence as a captain and later colonel in the Revolution, and became an important supporter of educational institutions in New York, including Queen's College, which changed its name to Rutgers in his honor.
