"Two great fairs, which were held for a period of 3 months this year [1950] and attracted great throngs of people from all over Japan, had special sections reserved for Unesco" (U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, Vol. 4, Issue 9). The Kobe Fair was sponsored jointly by Hyogo Prefecture and the city of Kobe. "In 1950, a total of ten domestic fairs were scheduled to be held with the direct support of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). Notable among these were the America Fair in Nishinomiya and the Japan Trade and Industry Fair also known as the Kobe Fair 1950 which ran for three months from 15 March through to 15 June. The main site of the Kobe fair was Oji Park which directly overlooked the port. . . The Kobe Fair sought to showcase the progress that the Japanese had made in foreign trade and industry. . . The main aim of the Kobe Fair was the aid Japan's economic reconstruction and thereby to improve the lives of the Japanese People." Koiso studied at Tokyo University of the Arts, and during WWII had a successful career as a painter of Japanese military scenes. He was also involved in the painting event in the art competition during the 1936 Summer Olympics.
