Single vellum leaf from a Sacramentary, with Latin text for the Thursday and Friday of the fourth week of Lent written in early Caroline minuscule in brownish black ink with uncial headings in red, 23 lines, recto and verso, with 2 3-line and 7 2-line decorated initials in colors. Approximately 273x174 mm; varying edge and surface wear. France, 8th century?

  • Notes: Formerly used as the exterior of a binding, with joint and turn-in creases and diagonally trimmed corners; the area that had been the interior of the spine panel is heavily worn, with a crack in the vellum crudely stitched and 4 lines of text largely illegible.
