(Arenella 1615-1673 Rome) Landscape with Saint Jerome. Pen and brown ink on cream laid paper mounted on heavy laid paper. 222x165 mm; 8x61/2 inches. Inscribed "S R" in ink, lower right recto. Ex-collection Mathias Polakovits, ink stamp lower right recto (not in Lugt). The handling of the landscape in the current work recalls Rosa's preparatory drawing for the etching of Albert, Companion to St. William, 1661, Collection of Lord Leicester (see Wallace, The Etchings of Salvator Rosa, Princeton, 1979, p. 248-49, figure 100a).
