SAM HYDE HARRIS (1889-1977). BACK EAST EXCURSIONS / SOUTHERN PACIFIC. Tempera maquette on artist board. Circa 1925. 40x30 inches, 101x7
40x30 inches, 101 1/2x76 1/4 cm.
Condition B+: peeling, creases and pin holes in corners; minor chipping at edges.
"Harris also designed for other lines [including Southern Pacific and Union Pacific] generally following the 'Back East' theme" (Zega p. 52). To the best of our knowledge this image was never turned into a poster, suggesting it was a speculative work by the artist which the railroad did not accept. Not in Harris.
