HAVING "LA CARMENCITA" AND OTHER PAINTINGS PHOTOGRAPHED SARGENT, JOHN SINGER. Autograph Letter Signed, "John S. Sargent," to [portrait photographer Sherill?] Schell, informing him that the painting [possibly Edwin Booth (1890)] will be ready to be photographed next week, inquiring after the name of the intended photographer and the name of the one employed for La Carmencita (1890), and requesting proofs of each. 2 pages, 8vo, written on first and third pages of a folded sheet, mourning border stationery; folds, dated docketing on terminal page. [New York, May 1890]

"I will have the picture varnished this week so that it can be photographed next week.
"Would you kindly inform me what photographer you wish [to] employ and what one you employed for the Carmencita. I should like to have a few proofs of both if you permit."
During the summer of 1890, Sargent rented the New York City studio of painter Dora Wheeler Keith, where he painted a number of portraits, including Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, financier George Peabody, and the actors Joseph Jefferson, Laurence Barrett, and Edwin Booth.
