(SCIENTISTS.) REAUMUR, RENE ANTOINE FERCHAULT DE. Document Signed, "de Reaumur," in French, granting a patent to Francois Fresneau for his invention of a single flame cooking stove. 1 page, single small 4to sheet. Paris, 20 February 1743
- Notes: Very scarce autograph of the important chemist, naturalist and inventor (1638-1757) best remembered for his thermometer which used a fixed point scale. "Reaumur was perhaps the most prestigious member of the Academy of Sciences during the first half of the eighteenth century"--DSB. Although not well known, Fresneau, the recipient of this patent, was influential in the early experiments with latex and rubber.
