Quarto, first edition of D'Avenant's adaptation, sixth edition overall, with four-line imprint; possibly the Abel/Richardson copy; bound in 19th century half red morocco with marbled paper boards; title slightly toned, good margins with headlines and bottom lines intact, 8 1/4 x 6 1/4 in.

This publication of Hamlet marks the Danish tragedy's first post-Restoration revival. Pepys was in attendance on opening night and records praise for the actors and production in his diary. Mary Saunderson played Ophelia, the first identifiable appearance of an actress in a leading role in a Shakespearean play.
