  • Notes: first edition of Dryden's adaptation of Antony and Cleopatra. Jaggard, page 282; Macdonald 82a; Pforzheimer 313; Wing D2229. Formerly the property of the author Louis Auchincloss, with a calligraphic bookplate on the front free endpaper presenting this copy to him as the 1935 English Essay Prize at Groton. The bookplate is signed by the school founder and headmaster Endicott Peabody, often assumed to have been the inspiration for the title character of Auchincloss's best-known novel, The Rector of Justin.
