SIDE BY SIDE BRITANNIA. 1918

At least four different posters exist promoting this event which was held to honor a close ally: As one of the other posters states, "America this day pays tribute to Britain's achievements in the Great War." In the final months of the war, the pride, optimism and pleasure of both countries working together is readily apparent in this compelling alegorical image. Britannia and a smiling Uncle Sam, accompanied by the symbols of their strength and nationalities, are walking arm and arm atop a grassy hill. Spread out behind them is a reminder of the continued strength of the Allies in the form of warships on the sea. Brought together by the events of the First World War, the strong relationship between the two countries has continued ever since. Flagg p. 76, Rawls p. 268, Borkan p. 169.
