SIGNER FROM MASSACHUSETTS (AMERICAN REVOLUTION.) PAINE, ROBERT TREAT. Autograph Document Signed, "R. T. Paine Atty for Rspdt," a copy of the decision against Sarah Gladden who "did commit fornication with a man to the jurors unknown, in Evil Example to others to offend in the like manner against the Peace of the Commonwealth." Countersigned by the jury foreman Joseph Gilbert. 1 page, approximately 4 1/2x7 3/4 inches; folds. Bristol, 12 June 1781

  • Notes: After the Revolution, Paine resumed his law practice and eventually became a Massachusetts Supreme Court Justice. This case, however, was not quite as "revolutionary" as prosecuting in the Boston Massacre trial!
