Though most of Vouets oeuvre consists of drawings in chalk, Thuillier discusses several works made as designs for engravings and drawn in pen an ink and wash, similar to the present work. One of which, Etude pour l'Allegorie de l'Histoire de ]a Maison de Savoie, was reproduced as an engraving by Claude Mellan (see Thuillier, Vouet, Paris, 1990, pp. 360-62, no. 66
