SLAVE NARRATIVE

Prince, Nancy. A Narrative of the Life and Travels of Mrs. Nancy Prince, written by herself. 12mo, publisher's cloth. Fine copy. Boston: for the Author, 1854 SECOND PRINTING, REVISED WITH ADDITIONS. Mrs. Prince's grandfather, though a slave, was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. She relates details of her family lineage. She married a black sailor who was an attendant to the Russian Princess Purtosoff in St. Petersburg. She also speaks of her reception by the czar and czarina. Upon her return to the United States, she became involved with the anti-slavery movement through her connection with Lucretia Mott. The narrative reveals an extremely interesting and varied life for a black woman during the first half of the 19th century. Blockson Collection 269 (3rd edition); Sabin 65570.
