Single 8vo sheet, folded to form four pages, written on two sides and docketed on a third; creases where folded; closed tear along the blank and docketed fold with archival paper repair. Notes: A significant letter showing the boldness with which the Liverpool slave-traders functioned in light of the 1807 British ban on the African slave trade. McInroy and Sandbach were the Demerara (present day Guiana) agents of Sandbach Tinne of Liverpool, a company ostensibly devoted to the import of sugar, coffee, molasses and rum, but also in "Prime Gold Coast Negroes." (J. Rodway, History of British Guiana, 1893). The author of this letter informs his Liverpool office that the ship "Parker" has arrived with "115 adult males, 86 adult females, 82 under 14 years, and 41 under 4 years. The vessel experienced, as we were led to expect contrary winds and calms which have prolonged her passage--there have only been three casualties during the passage--1 man and 2 children--which Captain R. says may be attributed to the wretched state in which they had lived ashore." Sandbach Industries was still trading on the London Stock Exchange in the 1960''s.
