  • Notes: First English edition of a classic abolitionist work. Anthony Benezet (1713-1784) was a Quaker teacher, writer and abolitionist. He was a major influence on Thomas Clarkson. Born to a Huguenot (Protestant) family in France. When he was two years old they moved to London to avoid persecution and then to America. He wrote several works condemning slavery which were widely read and reprinted.
