(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--CUBA.) Manuscript bill of sale for a slave named Joseph. Single large folio leaf, folded to form four pages, written on two sides and docketed on the fourth; elaborate signatures of the seller and buyer as well as the "notario" and scribe. Santiago, April 5, 1657

  • Notes: a fine example of an early slave sale document. Diego Garcia Bolanos of Santiago de Cuba, sells his slave Joseph, twenty-five years old to Martin Deguebaya of the city of Gueretano for the sum of 200 gold pesos.
