  • Notes: Anthony Smith, in a moment of magnanimity, sells his sixteen-year-old boy slave Jacob to Nathan Childs of Ann Arundel County for $225--with the proviso that after 20 years, Jacob may buy himself free for the sum of one dollar. Jacob would have been 36 years old when he attained his freedom.
