(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--JUVENILE.) RICHMOND, LEIGH. The African Widow.

(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--JUVENILE.) RICHMOND, LEIGH. The African Widow. 8 small woodcuts in the text; 16 pages, 24mo; original stiff decorative wrappers; some early discoloration and toning. Contemporary owner''s inscription, dated 1827. New York: American Tract Society, circa 1827

  • Notes: The Introduction to this little tract is signed ''L.R.'' suggesting this as the possible first American edition of a tract by Leigh Richmond. While the Library Company''s Afro-Americana 1553-1906 catalogue (#168) tentatively dates this at 1840, the 1827 gift inscription in this copy suggests a much earlier date.
