(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--NARRATIVES.) JOHNSON, ISAAC. Slavery Days in Old Kentucky, by Isaac Johnson, a Former Slave.

(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--NARRATIVES.) JOHNSON, ISAAC. Slavery Days in Old Kentucky, by Isaac Johnson, a Former Slave. Frontispiece portrait of the author. 40 pages. Tall 8vo, original printed pale greenish grey wrappers, sewn. Ogdensburg, NY, [1901]

  • Notes: first edition of a scarce and informative narrative, by a man who, along with his three other siblings and their mother, were sold by their father. In some ways, narratives like this, published after the turn of the century, are more authentic than their 19th century counterparts, which were often peppered with religious zeal and inaccuracies.
