  • Notes: an important variation on josiah wedgwood''s 1787 iconic image which bore the caption "am i not a man and a brother." The frontispiece was engraved by Patrick Reason and adopted by the American Anti-Slavery Society, adding the caption "Am I Not a Woman and a Sister." Reason, one of four siblings was born Patrice Rison in Guadalupe of free parents. He is known to have worked in several mediums, as a painter, engraver-lithographer and a sculptor. He is said to have created jewelry as well. Virtually all of his known works have strong anti-slavery themes.
