Hamilton, Ontario, circa 1900-1910

  • Notes: 'second edition,' rare. only one other copy of this narrative is located by oclc, and that being a third edition is in the waterloo, ontario library. William Mallory was born in 1826 in North and sold to a Frenchman from Virginia, by the name of LeBlanc, a "half brother to Simon Legree, whose character has been so well portrayed by Mrs Harriet Beecher Stowe.' Mallory remained with M. LeBlanc until the latter's daughter was married, when he was given to her husband, Mr. Susten Allen 'a member of the White House at Washington.' A summary of this narrative found on the 'Documenting the American South' site suggests that while portions of Mallory's account may have been exaggerated by him, it is still a valid and scarce narrative.
