(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) WEDGEWOOD, JOSIAH. Humanity.

(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) WEDGEWOOD, JOSIAH. Humanity. Cast iron desk box, holding a weighted roller blotter. The box bears an embossed representation of the English & Foreign Anti-Slavery Society's famous kneeling slave; [London?, 1795-1834]

  • Notes: An unusual appearance of the famous kneeling slave, whose motto usually reads "Am I not a Man and a Brother." In this example the word "Humanity" appears beneath the figure. This box holds a brass topped iron piece with a slight curve to its bottom, making it possible to "roll" the piece over one's letter to blot the ink.
